Satellite radio receivers display a relatively small set of error messages, and most have predictable fixes. Here's a glossary of the most common ones, what they mean in plain English, and what to try first.

'Acquiring Signal' That Won't Go Away

The receiver is searching for a satellite signal but can't find one. Move to open sky, check the antenna connection, and wait two minutes. If it persists for more than five minutes outdoors, the antenna is likely the problem.

'Check Antenna'

The receiver detects no antenna or a damaged antenna cable. Inspect the cable for cuts or kinks, reseat the connector firmly at both ends, and try a known-good antenna if available.

'Updating Channels'

Normal during the first few minutes after activation or after a reset. Lasts longer than 15 minutes? Park outdoors with a clear view of the sky and tune to channel 1.

'Subscription Updated' Followed by Channel Lock

Your account changed (downgraded plan, expired promo, payment issue) and the receiver received the update. Check your account portal — if everything looks correct, request an over-the-air refresh from your provider.

'Call to Subscribe'

The receiver is not associated with an active subscription. Either you're outside your free preview window or service has lapsed. Have your Radio ID ready and contact support.

'Loading' Stuck on a Single Channel

Usually a momentary signal drop. Tune to a different channel, wait 10 seconds and tune back. If a single channel always fails to load, the channel may have been moved — check current channel listings.

'No Signal' Indoors

Expected for portable receivers without a home dock. The indoor satellite signal is weak unless you have a window-mounted antenna with a clear view south.

'Antenna Not Detected' on a Factory Tuner

The shark-fin or windshield-mounted antenna may have a broken cable inside the headliner. Common after collisions or sunroof repairs. This usually requires dealer or specialist service.

Error Codes Starting With 'E' or 'Code'

These point to firmware issues. Try a soft reset first, then a factory reset. If the same code returns, the receiver may need a firmware update — most receivers update over the air automatically when left on with a clear signal for several hours.

When to Escalate

If a hardware error persists after resets and antenna checks, call support at +1 (877) 513-0191 before buying replacement parts. Some 'errors' are actually account-side and clear up the moment a refresh signal is sent.
